There's no escaping the fact that Leisure Connection's Downham Health & Leisure Centre is celebrating a fantastic first year.
Firstly with the recent Government launch of free swimming taking place at the site and now the innovative health and leisure centre has been placed firmly in the "highly commended" category following its first assessment by Quest, the UK Quality Scheme for Sport and Leisure.
The Centre, which is managed by Leisure Connection on behalf of Lewisham Council, scored 80% in the assessment, the highest score ever achieved by a leisure centre in the UK after only one assessment. The assessment took a detailed look at every aspect of the Leisure Centre including health and safety management, cleanliness, customer relations and the facilities before giving the centre top marks.
Following Downham's achievement Leisure Connection now has 52 sites accredited with Quest. Of these 52 sites 16 scored over 75% and are highly commended. 7 of Leisure Connection's sites score over 80% with Lillishall, the National Centre of Excellence for Britain's top athletes, top of the pile with 85% and classed as excellent. Tony Penge, Contract Manager for Downham Health & Leisure Centre said: "The Quest award is a fantastic achievement for the Downham team and I am delighted with the 80% score we achieved, especially as we are the first Leisure Centre in the UK to achieve such a high mark on its first assessment. The result is a well deserved reward for the team's hard work, dedication and professionalism in our first year of operation"
Quest assessor Mike Tebbutt commented that: "The centre had been awarded the highest marks possible in a number of key areas including Programme Development and Partnerships."
